behalf, that the person at your door is
genuine. If they are not or they think there
is something suspicious, they will contact the
police immediately.

Most people who call to your home will be genuine.
But sometimes, people turn up unannounced, with
the intention of tricking their way into your home to
steal your money and valuables.
You should always be aware when someone you don’t
know calls at your door. By using the advice in this
leaflet, you can protect yourself and your family.
Unknown callers may be smartly dressed, young
or old, male or female and may claim to be from
the council, the police, gas, water or electricity
companies. Sometimes they may want to use the
phone or ask for a drink of water.
When answering the door always remember to:
